First by Kapil, then by Virat on Kapil’s birthday!
The best thing that can happen on a lazy Sunday morning is a follow-on (Yeah, you heard it right) being enforced on the Australian cricket team in Australia. Man! How badly I wanted it! Wounds of Sydney, 2008 are still fresh. The kangaroos have their tails between their legs and I am loving it. Bliss!
And you know what, the last time an Indian Team enforced a follow-on in Australia on the home team was way back in 1986, and at Sydney itself! India, captained by Kapil Dev, batted first and declared at 600/4 riding on superb centuries by Sunil Gavaskar, K Srikkanth and Mohinder Amarnath. Australia were all out for 396 in the first innings short of follow-on target. India couldn’t get Australia all out in the second innings and the final Australian second innings score was 119/6.
And now it is Sydney again and bad light is playing spoilsport trying to prevent India going 3-1 up in the series.
Another wonderful coincidence, today is Kapil Dev’s birthday, the man who led that Indian team of 1986. One part of history has been re-enacted by Virat Kohli’s team. A fitting tribute to Kapil Dev would be a complete decimation of the Australian second innings.
Let us just hope that rain and lights do not side with Australia this time!
